Haewon Yang, solo piano

Korean-Canadian pianist Dr. Haewon Yang has been recognized for her colorful and sensitive performances, and described as an “expressive, intelligent and meticulous performer”. She is sought after for her flexibility across different genres and carefully studied interpretations of solo, chamber and collaborative repertoire. Haewon has won awards and top prizes from various competitions and foundations for her musical and academic achievements, such as the Canadian Music Competition, Shean Music Competition for Piano, Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, and the Korean Canadian Scholarship Foundation.
Haewon has been invited to perform as a guest artist at the Yemel Philharmonic Society in Toronto, Canada, the Concordia Wilmington Concert Series in Wilmington DE, the Indiana Landmarks Center in Indianapolis, IN, the Purdue University Inaugural Concert in West Lafayette, IN, and her performances have been heard in many venues across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Toronto, Haewon went on to complete graduate degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She recently graduated with a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance and Literature, with a Minor in Music Education. Her doctoral research focused on the piano compositions of child composers, including the prodigious composer and pianist Emile Naoumoff. She attributes the entirety of her pianistic formation and musical training to her teachers Paulette Price, Marietta Orlov, and Arnaldo Cohen.
Alongside performing, Haewon has a heart for teaching, and has previously taught students as the Adjunct Professor of Piano at Indiana University East and as Associate Instructor of piano and Young Pianist Program faculty at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Currently, she is an Adjunct Faculty at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos campus, while also performing, teaching, and adjudicating. She is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
